About the Game

Doppelkopf is Germany’s great partnership game with a twist: the deck is doubled — every card exists twice — and the two holders of the Queens of Clubs form the hidden Re side against Kontra. Alliances only emerge as the cards fall, announcements double the stakes, and special points like the Fuchs and Karlchen reward sharp play to the very last trick.

Basic Rules

  1. 1Four players use a doubled 48-card deck — every card exists twice — with hands of twelve.
  2. 2The two holders of the Queens of Clubs form the hidden Re side; the other two are Kontra.
  3. 3Queens, jacks, all Diamonds and the Tens of Hearts are trump; the Ten of Hearts (Dulle) is the highest.
  4. 4Holding both Queens of Clubs is a Hochzeit: the first other player to win an early trick becomes your partner, or you play alone.
  5. 5You must follow the effective suit; of two identical cards, the first one played wins.
  6. 6Re and Kontra announcements double the score; Keine 90, Keine 60, Keine 30 and Schwarz raise the stakes further.
  7. 7The Re side needs 121 of the 240 card points; announcements shift the targets.
  8. 8Sonderpunkte reward catching a Fuchs (Diamond Ace), a 40-point trick (Doppelkopf) and Karlchen (Club Jack winning the last trick).
