Basic Rules
- 1Each player starts with 13 tiles (dealer gets 14). The wall has 136 tiles total.
- 2On your turn, draw a tile from the wall, then discard one tile.
- 3Form a winning hand: 4 sets (sequences or triplets) + 1 pair, or special patterns like Seven Pairs or Thirteen Orphans.
- 4Claim opponents' discards: Chii (sequence, next player only), Pon (triplet, any player), Kan (quad), or Ron (win).
- 5Declare Riichi when your closed hand is one tile away from winning — lock your hand and bet 1000 points.
- 6Win by Tsumo (self-draw) or Ron (claiming a discard). Your hand must have at least one yaku (scoring pattern).
- 7Common yakus: Riichi, Tanyao (all simples), Pinfu (no-points hand), Yakuhai (value tiles).
- 8Points are calculated from han (yaku value) and fu (minipoints), with higher han reaching mangan and beyond.
